LWE students from Argonne National Labs ESRP (Exceptional Student Research Program) presented the results of their research, and their experiment conducted using the APS cyclotron at Argonne to their parents and the East Science Department. The experiment involved collecting data from the APS which provides bond lengths and angles for atoms within the protein. This information is refined and entered into a 3-D molecular modeling program in order to map the crystalline structure of the protein. There are many ways in which this information will be utilized including: creation of vaccines, renewable energy sources, food production, and insight into biological processes to name just a few.

Mrs. Cavanaugh and Mr. Newcomb from the English department presented to the LWE staff on ChatGPT. They shared information about how AI presents challenges to teaching writing, but also ways in which educators can use AI to help students develop a writing process, get feedback, differentiate learning, and think more critically about writing. They demonstrated how to use ChatGPT as a tool similar to a calculator. Teaching students to show their work and provide evidence are examples how educators can teach students to properly use this technology.
