Welcome to Starbooks! Freshmen Seminar classes visited the LWE library today for a memorable book talk. The students participated in a 'speed dating' activity with a list of books recommended by librarian, Mrs. Siemann. They evaluated two books at each table, switched tables several times, and then met with their peers to discuss their findings. The purpose of the activity was to expose students to a multitude of books and choose one for their biography assignment.

The sound of jazz filled the air tonight as our Griffins performed on stage. These fine musicians showcased their music and demonstrated growth while entertaining the crowd!

LWE Scholastic Bowl are CHAMPIONS! They are headed to the Masonic State for the first time in history!

Students in Mrs. Kosinski's AP U.S. History and AP Human Geography classes had some Valentine fun on Tuesday, creating content-related Valentines! Mrs. Kosinski used Microsoft Forms to create ballots and Social Science teachers and students from other classes voted for the winners in each class.

Mr. Harrah’s Psychology of the Mind class had a brain lab activity today. In this “brain surgery” lab, student used candy, fruit, and other objects to recreate the brain and all of its parts. Once surgery was complete, they had to correctly explain the function of each part of the brain. The students got competitive and had fun!

LWE welcomed the Class of 2027 tonight at the Freshman Open House. The 8th graders received a wealth of information on courses, activities and sports. Staff and students shared their knowledge and excitement for our future Griffins!

Our very own Lincoln-Way East alumnus, Dr. Jake Aleck, from Frankfort's Aleck Pain To Performance, presented to students during their advisory today. His focus was "The Modern-Day Guideline to Healthy Eating". Dr. Aleck provided students with the most up-to-date scientific perspective on the importance of healthy eating for a young adult. He believes health should be a top priority to a growing body and recognizes nutrition information can be quite confusing. Dr. Aleck provided the simple foundations of healthy eating that nearly everyone can use to get the most out of their well-being. Covering what to eat, when to eat, whether supplements are worth using, and the best lifestyle choices for optimal health.

Ms. Graham's AP United States Government students were engaged in a simulation called log-rolling. This is a practice in Congress of trading votes in order to get bills passed which can help a Congressmember’s home district.

¡El Super Bowl! Señor Shannon’s Spanish classes researched facts and information about the Big Game on Sunday. Correct answers allowed one to kick a field goal. 🏈🏟️💨🏆🙌🏽🌬️

Lots of hands-on experiences for Mrs. Widinski's freshman classes as they complete DNA modeling in Biology.

LWE Chess did amazing at state! Gabe Panner, who finished undefeated with the highest score of anyone in the tournament! That's out of 1,100 players, an exceptional achievement.

Griffins! Come out to support this fundraiser this Friday, February 17th for our Future Health Professionals Club.

Beyond the Blue is on Saturday, February 11th in the gymnasium from 7 PM - 10 PM.  No bags or backpacks are allowed at the dance.  If you are being dropped off, you will enter Door#1. If you are driving, park by tennis courts and enter Door#9.

LWE Chess players are at the State tournament!! This 2-day tournament is with 1,400 players. It is the largest Scholastic Chess Tournament in North America.

Summit Hill and Hickory Creek 8th graders got a sneak peek of high school this week. Mr. Griggs led a team of staff and students to showcase LWE's offerings including course options, electives, sports, and activities. The 8th graders were entertained by the LWE choir and guitar classes. Our Griffins shared invaluable advice on how to get involved, try new activities, and maintain good grades. We hope our 8th graders walked away feeling high school is going to be a fun experience!

Spanish 2 students are testing both their Spanish reading comprehension and Super Tazón(Super Bowl) knowledge before game day this weekend!

For TWIRP spirit week we have Thursday's theme Dream Career. We have some new sheriff's in town dressed to impress supporting spirit week for our students.

Key Club students created Valentine's cards to be delivered to The National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI offers educational programs, advocates for individuals and families affected by mental illness, and operates a toll-free helpline.
