student section spirit showdown

Lincoln-Way Central has always had a strong foundation of school spirit and Knight pride. In 2023, Coach Woodburn and his staff made positive changes to our football program bringing an exciting new energy to Friday nights that this community hasn't seen in many years.  Friday nights are about more than just football game, they are a community event where we all come together to celebrate and cheer on our school.  The successful fall athletic season in general ignited a new sense of Knight pride and resulted in an excited student body, hungry for more school spirit.

In preparation for the 2024-2025 school year, Coach Josh Napier and Coach Rachael Rodriguez were hired as new Knightmare sponsors with a small goal of improving school spirit and involving more students.  They listened to ideas, collaborated with staff and community, and empowered our senior students to be leaders. Coach Napier and Rodrieguez's leadership got more LWC students involved and helped foster a deeper sense of connection to their school.   This March, they proved to have exceeded all expectations when the LWC Knightmares were awarded the title of IHSA Student Section Spirit Showdown champions!  Coach Napier said, "The idea of the Knightmares has evolved in one school year beyond anything anyone could have imagined. We are now giving the student body a place to express themselves through school spirit in a way that they feel empowered and appreciated. I am proud to help give the Knights a different kind of voice, one that will carry on the traditions of Lincoln-Way Central for many years to come."

The senior student leadership group was instrumental in creating an unforgettable environment and leaving a legacy that will be remembered for many years to come.  An extremely creative senior photographer and videographer, Gabby Gatsios, used her talents to capture the excitement and fun by sharing through video creation.

Senior Will Mohoney, a.k.a. "Mr. Knightmare," found himself front and center of the student section on Friday nights, leading and connecting the students and community.  “It was an honor being given the opportunity to bring up the energy in the stands this year. I felt a strong sense of pride in the fact that I was able to replicate the enthusiasm I have for Knights athletics in the rest of the student body,” said Mohoney.

Senior Student Council Class President Jamison Stockrahm organized and lead half time shows at various sporting events engaging the school community.   Events included teachers shooting half court shots, the principal kicking a field goal, and students competing in exciting competitions.

We are excited to continue this new tradition and build upon this level of school spirit for many more years to come.

We are Central, We are the KNIGHTS!
