Central’s SkillsUSA club identified a goal of helping students explore different career paths this fall. To meet that goal, members and guests toured 5 local business on their “Career Builder” field trip platform to learn about rewarding careers that local and in high demand.
Each year, students get to experience three or more Career Builder experiences with different employers every year so that they get exposure to a dozen or more careers before they graduate.
Businesses visited were:
Altorfer Caterpillar in Mokena
Mokena Police Department’s new Police Station
Corsetti Structural Steel Inc. in Joliet
Operators Local 150 in Wilmington
Students received an up-close and hands on look at careers options. Every student received implicit information about the requirements and qualification that would set them up for success
“These Career Builders are an excellent way for students to get exposure to area employers. Most of these careers, students would never have known about or been able to see without SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA members have this opportunity and that is what helps to make it so important for them,” said Daymon Gast, SkillsUSA Advisor.
SkillsUSA is an exciting club that is available to any student in Lincoln-Way. SkillsUSA hosts regular meeting throughout the year.
