Ms. Premo took six Griffins to Argonne's Science Careers in Search of Women (SCSW) conference yesterday. During the conference, the girls listened to a keynote speaker and then separated into breakout sessions based on their interests. During these breakout sessions, they were able to talk to women in their specific fields of interest to learn about different science-based careers. The students also had an opportunity to tour different areas of Argonne National Lab to see what those careers look like in action. Choir students from East and West visited Disney's Imagination Campus over spring break. They participated in a vocal clinic with a Disney cast member, rehearsing two songs from 'Beauty and the Beast' while also providing foley work (sound effects). Both the vocals and sound effects were dubbed into the original 1991 animated classic and played back to an amazed group of choir students!

LWE students from the Argonne National Labs Exceptional Student Research Program presented the results of their research and their experiment conducted using the APS cyclotron at Argonne to their parents and to the East science department staff this week. The experiment involved collecting data from the APS, which provides bond lengths and angles for atoms within the protein. This information is refined and entered into a 3-D molecular modeling program in order to map the crystalline structure of the protein. There are many ways in which this information will be utilized including: creation of vaccines, renewable energy sources, food production, and insight into biological processes to name just a few.

Both of the Lincoln-Way AFJROTC Academic Bowl teams made it to the finals in DC. They were one of only 16 teams nationwide from 630 teams to earn a spot. This is the second year in a row that the Lincoln-Way Central/West team made it to the finals, and the East team will also be competing there this year.
