Joe Skarbek - Associate Principal

This will be my 28th year of reporting to Lincoln-Way High School, which I came to immediately after graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University.  To say that the people I have met at Lincoln-Way are like FAMILY, would be a huge understatement.

My career at Lincoln-Way has seen me fill a number of roles, and wearing different colors, in OUR School District.  I have served as a science teacher and department chair, along with being a coach in three different sports, namely baseball, golf, and basketball.  During my sixteen years in the classroom, I also served as a Dean, Gifted Education Coordinator, and Scholastic Bowl Coach.

In 2013, I, along with my family, decided to become a full-time administrator when I became the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at L-W East.  This move also prompted me to return to higher learning, where I received my doctorate from the University of St. Francis.  As an AP at East, I managed 504 Plans, worked with teachers on classroom instruction and design, assisted departments as they continually monitor their curriculum, and worked with students, and their families, as they navigate the world of a 21st century high school student.  I am excited to continue to fulfill these tasks wearing red and black.  I returned to LW Central last year and am excited for my second year in this role.

Currently, I live in the same town that I was raised, Tinley Park.  My wife, Tracy, and I have three children.  Abby is a recent grad of the University of Illinois, so I have played the part of the proud parent of a high school student.  The two younger ones keep us on our toes, as they are polar opposites.  Andrew is in the eighth grade and requires a lot of assistance as he is “Profoundly” Autistic and Alexandra is in sixth grade and could not be more social or active.

I am excited for my second year at Lincoln-Way Central and serve on a TEAM lead by Dr. McNamara.  I recognize that LWC looks a little different than when I left in 2007.  However, it is TRULY a remarkable community and I am hoping I can bring some experience and a helping hand to a proud organization.  Once a KNIGHT, Always a KNIGHT!
