SkillsUSA raises over $6,400 for the PFC Aaron Toppen Memorial Foundation at Thursday's Welding contest.
This year's contest, titled BBQ for the Brave, featured a fundraiser for the Our Fallen Hero Foundation in memory of PFC Aaron Toppen benefitting the Illinois United Service Organization (USO).
The annual welding contest better prepares our students for future contests and for competing in the working world upon graduation. This year's contest included a variety of welds as well as a written test in two categories, Intermediate and Advanced. See below for a list of winners:
Top five welders in the Advanced welding are 1st place: Tori Hay -LWE, 2nd place Brian Vanderhei - LWW, 3rd Place: Brian Rooney - LWE, 4th place: Louis Myslinski - LWC, 5th Place: Matt Lee - LWW.
Top five welders in the intermediate welding are 1st place: Tyler Lisota - LWE, 2nd place: Julio Morales -LWW, 3rd place: Matthew Reed - LWW, 4th place Barry King - LWC. 5th place: Alex Paul - LWW
This year's Skills USA community service project team leaders are Addison Gast, Avery Gast, and Alivia Ozinga. Students enrolled in welding and SkillsUSA were asked to sell raffle tickets for a chance to win a Texas Pit Smoker. Along with the help of Lincoln-Way ROTC, parents, and staff more than $6,400 was raised for the Foundation, which will include a donation to the Illinois USO.
The winner of the raffle was Frankfort Resident Damien Chin, who purchased his raffle ticket from his son Landen. The family is very excited.
