Dear Lincoln-Way families,
Thank you for your patience this week – this was not how any of us hoped to begin the second semester. The decision to go remote this week was made due to staffing shortages across all three of our schools. We are aware that students faced difficulties with technology on Tuesday. Several factors led to those disruptions, some of which were beyond our control. We were pleased that many of those issues were resolved on Wednesday, and students were able to receive direct instruction during the remote period.
As we look forward to next week, we are in a position to pivot back to in-person learning on Monday, January 10th. There is a shortage of bus drivers both locally and nationally, and Lincoln-Way continues to navigate these shortages. Although not ideal, we are asking that each building go without bus service one day next week to alleviate some of the stress on our transportation department. West will be without bus service on Monday, Central on Tuesday, and East on Wednesday. You can expect to receive instructions from your principal prior to your building’s blackout date. We will evaluate the need for additional changes as we move through the week.
We recognize that this disruption causes additional stress on families, however, in the short term, this is what must be done to return to in-person learning.
We made great progress during the first semester, and we are hopeful that we will recapture some of that momentum as we continue to move through the second semester. Certainly, in high school we teach many lessons of life, such as dealing with challenges, overcoming adversity, and developing resiliency. We didn’t plan to teach them in this format, but we are appreciative of our school community for their ability to adapt.
