Area schools come together for ArtWorks 2013

Students from 31 area schools, including all four Lincoln-Way high schools, will exhibit their dance, speech, drama, music and visual art talents at ArtWorks 2013, a fine arts festival sponsored by Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210.
Come see a variety of musical and dance performances by the Lincoln-Way Youth Strings and Orchesis dance troupes as well as more than 800 pieces of student artwork from Lincoln-Way High School District 210, New Lenox School District 122, Frankfort School District 157-C, Summit Hill School District 161, Mokena School District 159, Manhattan School District 114 and several area private schools.
The festivities are free and open to the public beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort. The event will conclude at 3 p.m. that day.
In addition to art exhibits, dance performances and musical performances, there will be face painting and concessions.
Local professional artists Ken Hawke, Ted Fuka and John Tylk will offer demonstrations in photography pastels and oil painting between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Throughout the day, children also will have an opportunity to participate in several hands-on art activities, including printmaking, clay building, jewelry making and painting.
Admission is free and open to the public, so please stop by and enjoy a day devoted to celebrating the arts.
