Aerospace Science and Leadership

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: Elective. This course may be taken in place of Physical Education.
COURSE SEQUENCE: Three-year sequence.
OTHER PREREQUISITES: None.
STUDENT AND STAFF ORGANIZATION: Conventional; a marching component is also included.
COURSE OVERVIEW: The Air Force Junior ROTC program provides citizenship training and an aerospace science program for high school students. The curriculum is a balance of 60 percent aerospace science and 40 percent leadership education. Classes are taught by retired Air Force commissioned and non-commissioned officers. Classroom study includes the heritage of flight and navigation, aerospace vehicles, rocketry, propulsion, space travel, and aviation careers. Students are also introduced to military customs and courtesies, flag etiquette, basic drill and ceremonies, management, human relations, and communications. Many military-related field trips are included in the program. Additionally, there is a community service component which helps instill a sense of civic pride and leadership.
