read one or more works of required authors while analyzing prose,
and poetry both orally and in writing. The fifth year course
is extremely challenging as it requires a high level of language
ability as well as a considerable amount of reading and usage
of analytical skills. Students may be required to purchase a

opportunities and this course may help students improve their
English language skills. Memorization is an important skill

will be applied in various forms of communication. Skills of
listening, speaking, reading, and writing are practiced while
students acquire cultural competency by broadening their knowledge
of the Spanish-speaking world. Each student is required to use
Spanish in class and to be a participant in all activities.
Students will practice their own communicative skills, employ
critical-thinking skills, and gain insights into Hispanic cultures

composition and/or conversation. Instruction is done in Spanish.

are reviewed and refined through guided practice, composition,
literature, videos, and student presentations. In addition to
classroom work, students are required to do assignments using
