L-W Cheerleaders to Perform
at U.S. Cellular Field
Cheerleading squads from Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way
North are headed to U.S. Cellular Field on Aug. 24 for a special performance
before the game.
The squads, coached by Samantha Wertelka (Central), Julie Zaker (East) and Jaime
Robison (North), are scheduled to perform at Gate 1 as spectators arrive for
the Aug. 24 match-up between the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
The pregame entertainment begins at 10 a.m. The game begins at 1:05 p.m.
“We’re really pleased to have this opportunity to perform before
the White Sox game,” said Wertelka. “This will be the third year
the Knights have participated in the event.”
“The girls love to perform for others,” said Zaker, “so they
are really excited to be able to do that at this venue.”
“They’re very excited (about the performance),” added Robison, “because
they are going to be put on the Jumbo Tron where the whole park can see them
on game day.”
The cheerleading squads earned an opportunity to perform at the game by selling
tickets for a fundraiser. Each school had to sell 150 tickets to participate.
They will join a number of other area high schools, including Sandburg and St.
Rita, at the pre-game festivities.
More than 100 Lincoln-Way cheerleaders will be at the game. Lincoln-Way East
plans to send 51 girls from its varsity and sophomore squads while Each Lincoln-Way
North, which is celebrating its first year of existence, plans to send 72 girls
from its freshman, sophomore and varsity teams.
Each team will perform a one-minute routine that will include a cheer, music
and lots of action.
