Lincoln-Way East Yearbook Students Awarded Outstanding Staff Award
Thursday, July 6, 2017
On Friday, June 23, Lincoln-Way East students and yearbook staff, accompanied by yearbook advisor, Amy Cavanaugh, attended a two-day workshop hosted by Valerie Tanke of Walsworth Publishing at St. Mary’s college in South Bend.
Senior Megan Borgens, along with juniors Molly Goar, Madison Glatz and Jenifer Kawakami not only developed new ideas for the story of their school for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year, but received the Outstanding Staff award for their hard work over the two-day experience.
“Receiving this award gets me excited because we received so much praise for what we did in two days; imagine what we can accomplish during our deadline.”
The LWE girls received one-on-one consultation from an award-winning adviser, to help broaden their skills in theme development, design, coverage, copy writing, leadership and other aspects of yearbook. The staff also met and shared ideas with other yearbook students from over 20 high schools and universities.
Each school’s staff came up with a theme or story to represent the upcoming school year, designed a preliminary cover and then presented their hard work to the entire workshop. These four students showed exceptional communication skills, work ethic and creativity.
“These students really came to the workshop with their game faces on and ready to work. It felt really amazing to win this award because I know that they won it with their hard work and incredibly positive attitudes. The other advisers were genuinely impressed with how well they took criticism, processed it, and turned it into something amazing. I am so proud of them and excited for this year.”
