Lincoln-Way alumni team up for a cause
Thursday, June 22, 2017
From June 23 – June 25, 2017 at the Arctic Ice Arena in Orland Park, nearly 40 high school teams and over 500 players will participate in the Illinois Alumni Hockey Tournament fundraiser. This year’s proceeds will benefit a local organization: the Westside Foundation.
The organization was started as a way to provide assistance to Illinois families in hardship who have a child with a disability. The hockey tournament supports the Westside Foundation's 2017 goal to give away $50,000 to families in need. Alumni from Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way West, and over thirty other Illinois high schools will be participating in the event.
This will be the Fifth Annual Illinois Alumni Hockey Tournament organized by alumni hockey players Mark Cassidy (Lincoln-Way Central Graduate, 2006) and Kelly Bridgeman (Homewood-Flossmoor Graduate, 1973). Cassidy founded the event in 2013. He coordinates and participates in the fundraiser annually. "I am excited to get back on the ice with old teammates to skate against our former high school hockey rivals, all for a great cause," he says.
Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 Board Secretary and former tournament committee member Aaron Janik first participated in the event in 2013, and plans to attend again this year. “This is a really great event for a worthwhile cause,” says Janik. “I think it’s great that so many Lincoln-Way alumni are participating…I also think Mark Cassidy embodies the Lincoln-Way spirit, as do so many of our alumni, in giving back to the community.”
