Monday, April 24, 2017

On Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Lincoln-Way East field house, Griffin dodgeball teams will take part in the Aaron Toppen Memorial Dodgeball Tournament. Student teams consisting of eight players will compete in the event; per the Toppen family’s request, funds raised will be donated to Puppies Behind Bars. Puppies Behind Bars trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and explosive detection canines for law enforcement.

Private First Class Aaron Toppen graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School in 2013. After graduation, Toppen enlisted in the United States Army; he was killed in Afghanistan while serving his country on June 9, 2014.

“The spring dodgeball tournament is a great activity run by our Student Council,” says Associate Principal Joe Skarbek. “The students choose to honor Aaron Toppen by competing at a high level, having a great time, and helping those that are in need. That's what life should be about for people of all ages.”
