Lincoln-Way East Scholastic Bowl ends on a high noteThursday, March 16, 2017
On Monday, March 6, Lincoln-Way East hosted seven schools for a Regional Scholastic Bowl Playoff. The Griffins defeated Rich South High School and Oak Forest High School to set up for a Regional Final against Marist High School. In a dramatic come-from-behind fashion, the Griffins secured the Regional title by 60 points, with a final score of 310 to Marist’s 250.
The title was the first Regional win for Lincoln-Way East since 2012. Seniors Destiny Henning and Mary Gorski tied for the team lead in Regional scoring.
Henning says, "Winning Regionals was very exciting because we came back to win despite our large deficit.”
Although the Griffins’ winning streak came to a close at the March 11 Sectional competition, their spirits were still high. “This was the first Regional Championship during the seniors' four years at Lincoln-Way, and the juniors and underclassmen are really motivated moving forward,” said head coach D. Matthew Jordan.
Henning’s sentiments echo her coach’s. “The season was great!” she says. “I got to make new friends from East and the addition of new people made our team stronger. I am proud of everything we accomplished this season."
