Lincoln-Way West honors outstanding students at Academic Awards Night
Wednesday, March 1, 2017

On Monday, February 27, 2017, students, families, faculty, and staff gathered in the Lincoln-Way West auditorium to celebrate outstanding Warrior students for Academic Awards Night. To begin the event, Principal Dr. Monica Schmitt introduced Superintendent Dr. Scott Tingley and then spoke of the Warriors who would be honored.

“Although these fine students are being honored here tonight for their academic accomplishments, I must also add that most of these students are highly involved in our activity and athletic programs as well,” she said. “The fact that you students are able to manage your schoolwork in addition to your sports and activities is further evidence of your maturity and well-rounded nature…You have certainly displayed the four characteristic of a West Warrior—wisdom, courage, honor, and respect.”

Dr. Schmitt then honored Social Worker Christine Petrovski with a plaque commending her dedication to Lincoln-Way. Petrovski took a moment to speak to the audience regarding her love for the school. “When I first started working here seven years ago, I didn’t really know anything about Lincoln-Way…And never in a million years could I have guessed that I could love a school so much.” She continued to praise students for their commitment to excellence both inside and outside of the classroom, noting that the Lincoln-Way West culture is “undeniably positive and energetic.”

Dr. Schmitt then introduced Marty Luzzo, Associate Principal, Anne Shanahan, Associate Principal, Dr. Holly Pierson, Director of PPS, and Dr. Ted Robbins, Athletic Director.
