On Friday, February 3, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., more than 50 students from five high schools attended the Moraine Valley Welding Competition. Of the fifty, seven students were from Lincoln-Way Central. Two Knights placed as top finishers in the competition.
Students competed in four content areas: shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), oxy-fuel torch cutting (OFC), and a written test.
Senior Cruz Morris took first place in the shielded metal arc welding competition, and won third place in the overall competition. Senior Kevin Fox placed third in the shielded metal arc welding competition.
Welding Instructor Daymon Gast expressed pride for his students and their work. “Contests can be intimidating, but it’s a great way for students to get their name out there as someone who is serious about finding a rewarding career in the trades.”
He added that over the past ten years, there has never been a better time to begin a career the trades industry.
