Lincoln-Way East to host Winter Strings Extravaganza
Monday, February 6, 2017
On Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., Lincoln-Way East will host the Winter Strings Extravaganza in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Musicians from feeder districts and the Lincoln-Way East orchestra will perform. The show will open with a professionally trained Scottish Fiddler, and fiddle music will be performed throughout the night. Four festival orchestras will participate, featuring three student solo performances.
Michelle Freeland has directed in District 210 for five years. When she began, only 17 students were playing strings. Today, between Lincoln-Way East, Summit Hill Strings, the 157-C Orchestra, and Lincoln-Way Youth Strings, nearly 200 students participate.
Admission to the show is free. “This is one of the most exciting orchestra evenings we have every year,” says Freeland. “The high school students love performing for the younger students, and I love seeing how excited and amazed the younger students get when they see our Lincoln-Way students, just a few years older, having such fun performing. Seeing how much the program is growing makes us all very excited for music at Lincoln-Way.”
