Students were welcomed by Language Department Chair Peg Bobber, and received words of praise from Principal Monica Schmitt. “Congratulation on starting this great tradition here at West. We commend you for your work in the classroom and for being leaders in our school,” said Dr. Schmitt.

Students of French, German, Chinese and Spanish all registered with national honor societies to become eligible for awards and scholarship through their organizations. Eleven students were honored in French; seventeen students were honored in German; five students were honored in Chinese; sixty-eight students were honored in Spanish. In total, over 100 students were honored.

"We are proud to honor our inductees who have maintained a high level of achievement in language classes, display leadership, show cultural tolerance, and demonstrate a desire to promote the study of each of their languages,” said Bobber. “These students are on the path to earning the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy and earning Advanced Placement credit for their second language proficiency…We are fortunate to have skilled teachers who instill the love of languages and push our students to proficiency and the development of language as a lifelong skill."

After enjoying breakfast and taking the “Language Warrior Oath,” students received a certificate of achievement and celebrated among their peers.
