Lincoln-Way West hosts Halloween event with gruesome face painting

The Lincoln-Way West Art Club meets two Wednesdays each month after school in the Art Department. In the spirit of Halloween, on Wednesday, October 26, the Art Club met to practice creating gruesome Halloween makeup.

Art club sponsor Julia Johnson contacted sophomore Sabrina Swanson to ask if she would be willing to share her make-up skills with other Art Club students. Paul Niemeyer—a local artist—joined Swanson in the demonstration. Swanson and Niemeyer’s experience in creating realistic, gruesome makeup has been perfected through their work at SickHouse, a haunted attraction in Mokena. They used prosthetics, make-up and air brushing to create the desired effects on the faces of art students.

After the demonstration, Art Club members experimented with the tools to learn the techniques in order to be able to recreate what they had observed.

“I am grateful that my students have an opportunity to share their talents with each other and that local artists are willing to share their experience with future artists,” says Johnson. “The students really enjoyed the experience.”
