Lincoln-Way Central hosts psychology conference for teachers

On Friday, October 21, 2016, Lincoln-Way Central hosted the Chicagoland Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (CHITOPSS) Conference. Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) is an affiliate group of the American Psychological Association (APA).

The annual conference travels between schools in the Chicagoland area. Lincoln-Way Central welcomed guest speaker Dr. Laura Koehler from Linden Oaks. Dr. Koehler spoke with teachers about how to help students who deal with test anxiety.

After Koehler’s presentation, volunteer teachers presented ideas, activities, and tools that help in their own classrooms. “So many teachers—myself included—claim that this is the best professional development conference they go to,” says host and AP Psychology teacher, Bobbi Pehle.

With the exception of this year’s conference, Pehle presents at the conference annually. Because Pehle was the host this year, other Lincoln-Way teachers presented to the audience.

“This was a collaborative effort,” she says. “The social science department was spectacularly supportive and helpful preparing for the conference. All the Lincoln-Way psychology teachers assisted in any way possible. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our beautiful school, for 115 psychology teachers to learn, and for all of us Lincoln-Way psychology teachers to help our students.”
