On Sunday, October 9, eighty members of the Lincoln-Way East Griffins Poms program participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk in Orland Park, Illinois.

Although donations were not mandatory, many of the girls raised funds from family or local businesses and others donated from their personal funds. The team raised over $3500 in donations. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society; funds are used for breast cancer research, prevention and early detection programs, and for support for those affected by breast cancer.

Varsity Poms Coach Karisa Casey says, "Co-head coach Kristina Bloom and I are very proud of the efforts of our members. We try to build real-life lessons into our program and this walk has been a wonderful opportunity for our girls to see how big an impact our team can have in our community. It really helps to solidify the importance of teamwork and working together for a common goal."
