Lincoln-Way AFJROTC names
Wednesday, October 12, 2016

On Thursday, October 6, 2016, the AFJROTC board met from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. to score cadet candidates for “Cadet of the Quarter.”

Cadet of the Quarter recognizes first, second, third, and fourth year cadets who have excelled in the AFJROTC program. After students were nominated, they filled out a nominee package questionnaire (worth a maximum of 40 points) and then gave a live performance to the board for another possible 60 points. Cadets who met the board were issued study guides to help them prepare for potential questions from board members.

The nominee package questionnaire asks the cadets eight questions. Those questions are:

1. What teams are you on in AFJROTC?
2. What Activities/Community Service are you involved with in AFJROTC?
3. What teams are you on outside of AFJROTC?
4. What Activities/ Community Service are you involved with outside of AFJROTC?
5. How do you apply Corps Values in your everyday life?
6. Why do you believe you should be selected for this?
7.Do you consider yourself a leader? If so, why and how are you a leader?
8. What would you change in our unit and how would you change it?
Upon completion, the cadets turned in the questionnaire and met with the board. The board was chaired by the cadet group commander, Teresa Kozak. The board members were cadet deputy group commander Kyra Baltas and three cadet squadron members: Kelli Razny, Cassidy Sutter, and Steve Miller. They are referred to as “The Top Five.” The board evaluated the applicants through inspections of their uniforms, command exams, and series of questions. Once complete, the board recommended a winner (one in each year) to Colonel George Ramey.

"The cadets who are nominated to meet the board are recognized by their peers and instructors as the top cadets in each class for the quarter. The competition is so competitive that we occasionally have a numerical board score tie," says Colonel George Ramey.

Winners were announced on Friday, October 7, 2016. The winners by competitive category are:

1st year: Mary Zopf
2nd year: Abigail Schliffka
3rd year: Jared Bachman
4th year: Aidan Piwnicki

All winners will have their official unit photo displayed and each will receive the Superior Performance Ribbon at the semester awards ceremony.
