Lincoln-Way East High School's Winterguard was crowned Scholastic A Grand Champs at the annual Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championship on April 3rd. This is the first championship for Lincoln-Way guard in 26 years.

The two-day competition took place at LaPorte, Indiana High School. On Saturday, the first day of the competition, Lincoln-Way East placed second. On Sunday, however, East competed in the final round and came out on top, winning the Grand Champion honor.

"I'm so proud to be part of this amazing group of girls," said Maddie Roberts of Mokena, one of three senior guard captains. "Winning first place at Circuit was the perfect end to a challenging, but very rewarding, competitive season."

East's winning performance "A fine line between" consisted of spinning and tossing flags, rifles and sabers, as well as a choreographed dance routine.

East's Winterguard is directed by Midori Eng and Ari Corbin, and consists of 13 freshmen to senior members.

"I cannot believe how hard this guard has worked to become what we are today," said senior captain Faith Winter, of Mokena. "I am so proud of how far we have come from and where we had started my Freshman year."

"I'm so privileged to be a part of the Lincoln-Way East Color Guard," Winter added.

"I would not trade anything for the friendships and memories I've made being a part of the Lincoln-Way East Color Guard," said senior captain Olivia Jones, of Mokena. "Guard has been such an important part of my time at Lincoln-Way East, and I'm so proud to have been a part of this special season and to be leaving high school and this activity that I love so much, with a legacy and champion title."
