Lincoln-Way Central Student Earns Unique Art Scholarship
Thursday, January 7, 2016

Lincoln Way Central student, Rebecca Kahney, won a scholarship from the American Academy's Senior Scholarship Competition.

Rebecca was one of over 100 participating students, whom braved the snowy, Chicago elements on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 to compete in the American Academy of Art's Annual Senior Scholarship Competition.

All students were challenged to create two pieces while at the Academy from provided subjects: one being a found object arrangement, while the other a live model - having 3 hours for each piece.

No student has knowledge of what they are exactly working on until the moment the event begins - which causes students to rely entirely on their fundamental drawing skills and as result, making this a very challenging competition, commented Lincoln-Way Art Department chair and teacher Phil Labriola.

All pieces were judged by current Academy faculty from the fine art department, and 32 Scholarships were awarded in all.
