L-W Transition Students Plant 500 Poinsettias for Holiday Sale
Monday, September 21, 2015

Lincoln-Way students enrolled in the districts LIFE Transition program have planted 500 poinsettias that they will sell during the holiday season. The LIFE program expanded its facility at Lincoln-Way Central and has added a greenhouse component to Greetings Galore & More this year.

Students are very enthusiastic about the work they are doing in the greenhouse, said Mary Harrison, district director of Special Services. Through this project, they are learning valuable life skills about responsibility and discipline.

Students repotted the rooted cuttings and have been tending to and monitoring their growth in the greenhouse.

During the day, students visit the greenhouse to rotate the plants to control the level of sunlight they receive, water them, and pinch the leaves to ensure the flowers and leaves fill out.
