Monday, June 15, 2015

The Lincoln-Way East High School softball team finished second in the Class 4A state championship at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria on Saturday.

Nearly 100 people including parents, community members, administrators and Board of Education members, attended a trophy presentation at Lincoln-Way East Sunday to celebrate the athletes second place win.

The Griffins successful season ended in a hard-fought final game, losing 1-0 against Marist. Last year, East softball placed fourth at state.

While maintaining a team GPA of over 3.5 this team won a conference title, followed by a regional title in front of our home fans, two tough wins in Joliet for a sectional championship, 10 run rule wins in the super sectional and semi-final games
and an opportunity to compete in a state championship game, said Mark Vander Kooi, Easts athletic director.

I am so proud of your consistent hard work and determination that took us to state, said Easts head softball coach Elizabeth Pawlicki.

During the trophy presentation, Pawlicki told the crowd that this is her first group of girls to graduate and she knew when she met the seniors four years ago that they would go to state.

This is a special group of girls and we have so many great memories, Pawlicki said. Thank you for giving me my first run at state and my 100th win.

Pawlicki also thanked her dedicated coaching staff for their hard work in contributing to the teams success.

The varsity coaching staff includes Jamie Ende and Don Schaughnessy. Athletic trainer is Amanda Koehler.

This has been a historic year for Lincoln-Way East softball, Superintendent Dr. R Scott Tingley said during the presentation. To the parents, thank you for all you do to support your children from your sore arms helping them practice to serving as their cheerleaders at early morning games and practices. Their confidence is a direct result of your support.
