Lincoln-Way Welding Students Earn Multiple Competition Wins and Scholarships

Lincoln-Way welding students competed in six competitions this year, winning more than $10,000 in prizes, welding equipment, and scholarships.

Our welding students demonstrated a dedication to their craft and earned high rankings among other welding students from across Illinois, said Marc Hucek, Lincoln-Way Career and Technology Education teacher. These students put in a lot of time and hard work to strengthen their welding skills which helped set them up well for the future.

Lincoln-Way students placed in the following contests:

Joliet Junior College Welding Contest
Sam Porto, Lincoln-Way West; first place
Max Rickerson, Lincoln-Way West; third place
Jake Rossborough, Lincoln-Way West; fourth place

Simeon High School Welding Contest
Jon Graf, Lincoln-Way East; first place in senior division
Jarid Tomnitz, Lincoln-Way Central; first place in junior division
George Schaffer, Lincoln-Way West; second place in junior division


ETI School of Skilled Trades Welding Contest
Sam Porto, Lincoln-Way West; first place, scholarship
Max Rickerson, Lincoln-Way West; third place, scholarship

Morraine Valley Community College Contest
Max Rickerson, Lincoln-Way West; second place
Josh Rickerson, Lincoln-Way West; third place
