Lincoln-Way North Students Honored for Excellence in German

Lincoln-Way North students excelled when they put their German language skills to the test as part of the 2015 National German Exam for High School Students. Thirty-eight students enrolled in German at North, taught by Amy Ficarello, took the exam with many students scoring medals of high achievement, including several gold medals.

German I students Justin Bronzell and Hunter Sweeney earned an award for high achievement. Ryan Murphy and Mary Gorski received high achievement on the Level 2 exam. Logan Janicki and Erin Dilger received high achievement on the Level 3 exam and Michael Brezinski scored in the 83rd percentile for the Level 4 exam.

I am so proud of these students for this outstanding accomplishment and for their commitment to improving their German language skills, said Ficarello.

Nearly 21,000 students participated in the program, administered by the American Association of Teachers of German. Students are recognized on the Presidential Honor Roll on AATGs website www.aatg.org.

Over 2,500 students earned a Gold Award, scoring at the 90th percentile or higher. Approximately 2,000 students recognized with a Silver Award (80th to 89th percentile), and over 2,000 students received a Bronze Award (70th to 79th percentile).

The excellent performance of these students in this national competition brings honor to their school, their district, and their German program, said Mohamed Esa, AATG President. The AATG salutes the tremendous work of these students and their teachers.

Founded in 1926, the AATG represents German teachers at all levels of instruction. The AATG is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the teaching of language, literature and culture of the German‐speaking countries.

Other students who participated in the Level 1 exam were Patrick Belanger, Jack Chasteen, Carson Dietze, Nathan Grah, Amy Gustafson, Makenzie Helsel, Allison Jaquith, Clare Maylone, and Christopher Patterson. Students who participated in the Level 2 exam included William Driver, Brian Galassini, Noah Healy, Cameron Jaquith, Jacob Jung, Jeffrey Keightley, Alyssa Keller, Joseph Richter and Kara Swallow. Level 3 participants included Lucas Bertolani, Kavanaugh Dempsey, Blake Horner, Autumn Marcinkowski, Brenna Molinare and John Pursel. Level 4 participants included Patrick Kelly, and Sarah Larson.
