L-W West Varsity Warrior Dance Team wins sectional & qualifies for state competition

The Lincoln-Way West Varsity Warrior Dance Team won their sectional meet this past weekend, qualifying them to advance to the state competitions held in Bloomington on January 30 and 31.

The Competitive Dance Sectional was hosted by Fieldcrest High School in Minonk, IL. Lincoln-Way West won the 2A sectional with a score of 88.23, Lincoln-Way Central placed 3rd with a score of 79.57 and Lincoln-Way North placed 6th with a score of 73.73. All three schools have advanced to this weeks state competition.

I am incredibility proud of the work ethic and enthusiasm of these girls. They perform exciting, athletic, crowd pleasing routines that get better with each performance. These routines are a great representation of the pride and energy of the Lincoln-Way West Warriors, stated Melissa Sweeney, head coach and mathematics teacher at West.

This is the third year that competitive dance has been recognized as a sport by the IHSA. The Warrior Dance Team placed 1st in Conference at Lincoln-Way Central on January 15 with a score of 94.5.The Warrior Varsity Team has qualified for the state series each year placing 10th in 2013 and 15th in 2014.

Sweeney noted that the JV team has finished in 1st place in three invitationals this season. In addition the JV team earned the title of JV Conference Champions at a contest held at Lincoln-Way Central on January 15. The junior varsity is coached by 2010 Lincoln-Way Central graduate, Justine Haw.

Varsity team members are: Meredith Buldak, Rachel Czaja, Erin Dolan, Caroline Floyd, Kellie Galvan, Mary Goad, Lauren Heavener, Destiny Hernandez, Breanne Jacobs, Jessi Karlic, Meghan Kirk, Danielle Kuchler, Caitlyn McGrory, Dana Moss, Jordan Mysliwiec, Sydney Novak, Samantha Santo, Carly Senerchia, Miranda St. Amour, Shannon Sterr, Erika Tanquilut, Gabby Tanquilut and Carlee Wajchert.
