The Lincoln-Way East Air Force Junior ROTC program held their 4th Annual Military Ball on Saturday, 7 March, at the American Legion post in New Lenox.
The ceremony and dance included 185 cadets, instructors, and guests from the two Lincoln-Way AFJROTC units, and Lockport.
Brigadier General Mark Jackson was the Guest of Honor and featured speaker for the evening. A Frankfort resident, General Jackson is the newly appointed Director of the Joint Staff for the Illinois Army and Air National Guard forces and spoke on his career and the importance of the AFJROTC program towards the cadet’s future military or civilian endeavors.
Lieutenant Colonel John O’Connor, the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for the Lincoln-Way East AFJROTC program stated, “We are honored to have had General Jackson and his wife as our special guests for the evening. Our cadets put in a lot of hard work planning, organizing, and carrying out the duties of this traditional military ceremony; and General Jackson expressed how gratifying it was to see this time-honored tradition being carried forward by a new generation.”
A military ball is a formal event which combines the elements of a military-style Dining-Out ceremony with a dinner, speaker, and prom-type dance.
The goal of the Air Force Junior ROTC program is the develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.
