Lincoln-Way Students Build Prairie at Central
Friday, May 1, 2015

Lincoln-Way students are building their own outdoor classroom, complete with natural prairie plants carefully transplanted from the districts agricultural center at Lincoln-Way East to the pond at Central.

Students volunteered on Saturday, April 25 to begin the conservation project with Central Science Department Chair Sarah Highfill and Science teacher Dave Mulconrey. On Monday, biology students continued the restoration work, transplanting nearly 70 plants to their new location.

This was a great educational opportunity for students to get engaged with during Earth Week, said Highfill. Our students are looking forward to having a natural area to observe, conduct experiments and learn more about environmental issues.

Students will be offered community service hours to plan a flagstone path from the parking lot to the pavilion.
