Lincoln-Way West Presents "Road to Reality"
Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Homecoming week is full of fun activities, but Lincoln-Way West has a clear message during this week of celebration: Don’t Drink and Drive.

This important message is annually delivered to sophomores through their “Road to Reality” presentation, showing the impact of drunk driving through a series of live scenes by student and community actors, local police and fire officials, emergency room staff, and a judge.

The event is targeted to new drivers, although it is a grave reminder for all drivers how one mistake can ruin your life.

The emotional performance begins with teens at a party where alcohol is being served, who make the decision to drive to pick up a friend. The audience then sees an authentic car crash scene where the fire department uses the jaws of life to extract a passenger. Later, they enter the “emergency room” where a student is treated by Silver Cross staff and is pronounced dead.

The teen driver, who had been drinking, was arrested and sentenced to years in jail for killing her friend.

Special thank you to all our community partners for their support and assistance with this important event: New Lenox Police; New Lenox Fire District; Silver Cross Hospital; Superior Towing; Will County Sherriff’s Department; and 12th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Barbara Petrungaro.
