Best Buddies Leadership ConferenceMonday, July 22, 2019
Teachers and school administrators aren’t the only ones participating in professional development this summer, students are also gearing up for a new year!
Lincoln-Way students and alumni attended the 2019 Best Buddies Leadership Conference, which brings together leaders with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities from middle schools, high schools, colleges, and communities worldwide, providing personalized trainings that develop the leadership skills needed to organize a Best Buddies chapter and share the Best Buddies mission.
All three Lincoln-Way schools have a Best Buddies program, pairing students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in one-to-one friendships with high school students. In the past, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have not had the opportunity to have friends outside of their own special education classroom. By introducing Best Buddies into public and private high schools, participants are crossing the invisible line that too often separates those with disabilities from those without.
