Lincoln-Way Half Marathon offers virtual running option
Friday, March 16, 2018

The second annual Lincoln-Way Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 7:00 a.m. The race will be hosted by the Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Foundation for Educational Excellence, and will offer a “virtual runner” option for those who would simply like to donate. Virtual runners will receive a sticker showing their support of the Lincoln-Way Foundation Half Marathon, and are invited to cheer for other runners along the route, as well as attend the post-race celebration.

“Whether you enjoy walking, running or pure relaxation, we welcome the participation of the entire community,” says Race Director, Stacie McGlone. “We’ve heard people say that they would rather donate than run, so we offer our Virtual Runner option to those who prefer to participate from the sidelines! The net proceeds go to the same wonderful cause of benefitting Lincoln-Way students. Virtual Runners are just as important to us as those who go the full 13.1 miles!”

The race will begin and end at Breidert Green Park in downtown Frankfort and participants will run along Old Plank Road Trail and the Hickory Creek Forest Preserve throughout the race. The cost to register is $75.00. Runners will receive a performance T-shirt and items donated by sponsors. Finishers will receive a custom medal depicting the marathon logo designed by Lincoln-Way West student, Olivia Judge.

Proceeds from the race will go directly toward enhancing educational experiences of District 210 students; students of District 210 have received donations aiding in every subject matter since the Foundation’s inception. In January of this year, the Foundation made a $100,000 donation to enhance technology among all three schools, as well as donated over $5,000 to enhance the Lincoln-Way Transition Program. Annually, the Foundation gives 30 scholarships to graduating seniors from all three schools, as well as two honorary scholarships from former Board Directors for golf and music.

Sponsorships for the marathon are available as well. Those interested in running, volunteering or partnering with the Foundation can sign up at www.lincolnwayhalfmarathon.com.
