Lincoln-Way Central Wind Ensemble visits EIUThursday, March 1, 2018
On Friday, February 23, 2018, the Lincoln-Way Central Wind Ensemble traveled to Eastern Illinois University (EIU) to tour the campus, practice their music skills and perform.
After eating lunch, the 50 students attended a campus tour, a clinic with EIU Assistant Director of Bands Dr. Ben Druffel and instrument specific masterclasses.
"The whole day was a really fun experience. I feel like it was the best performance we have had as the Wind Ensemble during my time at Lincoln-Way Central. I also really enjoyed exploring the Doudna Fine Arts Center at EIU; it is a really cool space!" says senior euphonium player, Dominic Terrones.
In the clinic, the students performed and learned from Dr. Druffel; the musicians focused on how to perform the music with more detail and nuance. In the instrument specific masterclasses, students were able to receive group instruction from the EIU Studio Faculty in order to improve their skills on an individual level. This event will help the musicians in preparation for their winter concert scheduled for March 8, as well as their performance at the Chicagoland Band Festival on Saturday, April 7.
After a day of learning and practicing new musical skills, the trip concluded with a concert in the Dvorak Concert Hall, featuring select EIU Studio Faculty and the EIU Wind Symphony.
“The students had a blast seeing the beautiful Doudna Fine Arts Center, and they played so well,” says Lincoln-Way Central Band Director, Chris Mroczek. “I was very proud!”
