Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes win Regional CompetitionTuesday, February 27, 2018
On February 24, 2018, the Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes won the Region 14 qualifier in 4AA competition for state. Out of ten areas of competitions, the Knights captured four (4) first place spots and three (3) second place spots. The Knights will advance to the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Contest on May 5, 2018.
Knights placing first were: the Algebra 1 team of Anna Bethke, Nolan Cales, Liam Papier, Jay Parker, Ashvi Patel and Karina Rydecki; the Algebra 2 team of Kalei Bass, Jonah Haskins, Ennis Lange, Justin Lundy, Behnam Shamsaddin and Michael Zhan; the Calculator team of Alex Manka, Ben Zuraitis, Behnam Shamsaddin, George Burchfield and Jay Parker; and the Junior/Senior eight-person team of Zak Dundek, Emily Parker, Julia Roessler, Kelly Tran, Jeremy Brown, Jonah Haskins, Justin Lundy and Michael Zhan. Seniors Benjamin Bethke and Alex Manka placed third in their oral competition on Markov Chains.

Assistant coach Ashley Schliffka said, “We knew we had practiced well, and confidence was high. So we are thrilled with the results.”
