On Thursday, February 1, students in Ms. Alissa VanderSchaaf’s English 2 class received words of advice from guest speaker Ted Bryant. Bryant is the Senior Digital Media Coordinator for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.

While visiting Lincoln-Way West, Bryant spoke to students about the importance of writing outside the classroom, especially in the age of social media. Students enjoyed hearing about the multiple forms of writing used within his role with the Chicago Fire, and were also able to learn more about digital media from a marketing standpoint.

"The students enjoyed the opportunity to hear how the writing skills they are learning in class can be applied in a professional career,” said VanderSchaaf. Bryant’s visit allowed students to ask questions, as well as consider their course selections for the following year. Guest speakers frequently visit classrooms so that students are able to see how coursework is applicable in “real-world” professions, often influencing their choices in scheduling.

Sophomore Christopher Augustine said, "The speaker was great because he helped me understand that I can put my passion into a job. He was able to take his love of soccer and technology and be successful in life."
