Lincoln-Way East students donate over 3,000 items in Silver Turkey Food Drive

Lincoln-Way East High School Student Council hosted a Silver Turkey Food Drive during all first hour classes this November. Proceeds collected benefited the Frankfort Township Food Pantry. In total, 3,300 items were donated as well as $350.00 in cash.

The items collected were hand delivered by the Lincoln-Way East Student Council Executive Board. Executive Board members helped the Food Pantry volunteers unload the items, and received a tour of the pantry learning how they serve the community.

The top 3 Lincoln-Way East contributing classrooms were:
• 1st Place: Mrs. Natalie's first hour with a whopping 1,731 items
• 2nd Place: Mrs. Lamore's class with 376 items
• 3rd Place: Mrs. McConnell's class with 336 items

“The giving spirit of our Lincoln-Way East families is something to truly marvel. Having our students deliver the donations and tour the pantry gave us a firsthand account of the importance of the facility to our community. Our students saw, in-person, some of the incredible volunteers that do so much for those less fortunate, and were able to lend a hand during a busy time for the Frankfort Township Food Pantry. The students were so moved by their experience, that they want to host another drive in the spring to collect toiletries, which are items the Pantry is often in need of,” said Lincoln-Way East Student Council Advisor, Jason Pearson.
