Lincoln-Way West participates in National Day on WritingWednesday, October 25, 2017
On Friday, October 20, 2017, Lincoln-Way West participated in the National Day on Writing to celebrate the importance, joy, and evolution of writing through the hashtag, #WhyIWrite. The National Day on Writing is celebrated on October 20 every year.
Several teachers in the Lincoln-Way West English department participated by asking students to come up with their own reasons why they write and participate in writing activities such as developing arguments, writing thank you cards to military personnel, and constructing poems.
Students came up with meaningful and expressive reasons why they write. One particularly beautiful #WhyIWrite came from Lincoln-Way West freshman Lluvia Garcia, “to fill my paper with the breathings of my heart. I step into my scene and let it drip from my fingertips.”
The National Day on Writing is sponsored by the National Council for Teachers of English. For more information on National Day on Writing and for more #WhyIWrite examples visit http://www.ncte.org/dayonwriting.
