Wednesday, October 25, 2017

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, Lincoln-Way Marching Band (LWMB) performed at the Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional Competition. The preliminary competition began Friday at 7:00 a.m. EST, and continued through Saturday. The event was hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, and featured 69 competitive bands from across the United States.

The LWMB placed 12th out of 69 bands in the preliminary round to secure the band’s advancement to Finals, which were held later that evening.

“We are all very excited for the students,” says Director Chris Mroczek. “Watching their reaction during their performances this weekend will last in our hearts and minds for a long time. It was extremely fulfilling to be associated with their success.”

In Finals, the LWMB placed 14th, finishing an exceptional season of accomplishment.

“We are so proud of our students, as it is difficult to quantify how extraordinarily significant this year’s accolades were to accomplish and what they mean to our program in such a short tenure as a district program,” says Director Justin Barnish.

In the 2017 season, the LWMB was named grand champion at the Stagg Invitational, Illinois State class 6A Champions, and a Bands of America Super Regional Finalist. Additionally, the band was chosen to participate in the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.

“These accomplishments have come through the perseverance and dedication of our teaching and design staff, our parent support system, our school bus drivers, our district administration, and most importantly our students,” says Director Dr. Bert Johnson.

Director Cary Ruklic also credits the students with the success of the program. “Our base of leadership, last year’s LWMB and especially our senior class this season are the nucleus of what has given our organization and this community these outstanding achievements in such a short time,” he says.
