Lincoln-Way East 2013 graduate, Aaliyah Brown, was picked up by Carmelita Jeter to manage her professional track career after graduating from Texas A&M. Brown is now competing for Team USA.

“Competing for Team USA means everything to me. I have been trying out for teams since I was in 8th grade and making the USA team is a huge accomplishment and one of my proudest moments,” said Brown.

In one of her latest races Brown anchored the 4x100 and helped take home the win for Team USA by a landslide.

“I coached Aaliyah throughout her LWE career and she has always been one of the most determined runners,” said Caroline Gerritsen, Brown’s LWE coach.

“Watching Aaliyah grow as an athlete and a young lady while in high school and later while competing at Texas A&M was always impressive. She always held herself to a higher standard and due to her high demands of herself she caused everyone around her, both on her team and those competing against her, to hold themselves to a higher standard. She always brought the best out of everyone.”

In regards to how her time as a Lincoln-Way student helped shape her professional career, Brown had nothing but praise for her former team and coaches.

“Competing as an athlete at LWE taught me how to be a great athlete as well as a great person. It taught me to be a well-rounded individual all around, which is very important as a track athlete.”

Brown studied Sports Management and Tourism Management at Texas A&M, and hopes to get into Human Resources once her track career is over.

A quote Brown lives by, which has also helped her throughout her life is, "Your timing is not God’s timing."
