Lincoln-Way Regional bridge competitors honored at engineering banquet

On Friday, February 23, winners from the Chicago 2018 Regional Bridge Contest were honored at the Chicagoland National Engineers Week Banquet at the Robert E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. The banquet recognized twelve total students from the Chicagoland area, three of which are from Lincoln-Way District 210.

Lincoln-Way East Music Boosters to host Miles for Music 5K/10K races

The Lincoln-Way East Music Boosters will host a “Miles for Music” 5K/10K run on Sunday, April 8, 2018. The race will take place along Old Plank Road Trail and offers a 5K run/walk option, or a 10K run. This race is a benefit race for the Music Department at Lincoln Way East High School.

Lincoln-Way Central student wins essay contest, offered full tuition scholarship

Lincoln-Way Central student Kayla Szymanski isn’t your typical risk-taker. “I am not a risky person by any means, especially with my writing because I take it very seriously,” she says. But when put on-the-spot during an essay contest for an opportunity to gain full tuition, Szymanski pushed her creative abilities to the limit, earning herself a full tuition scholarship.

Lincoln-Way Central graduate helps Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team capture medals for Team USA

From February 22 to February 24, skaters from throughout the nation gathered in Portland, Oregon to compete in the 2018 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Lincoln-Way Central graduate Angelina McNulty and her team, the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, secured two medals at the event; both the Skyliners Junior line and Skyliners Senior line were selected to represent the United States at the World Championship in April.

Lincoln-Way East Scholastic Bowl Teams excel in competitions

On February 21, 2018 the Lincoln-Way East Scholastic Bowl Team closed out its SWSC campaign in the Conference Tournament. Varsity finished the regular season with a 10-2 record, taking third place in the 13-team conference. The spotlight was on the Freshman-Sophomore (Frosh-Soph) Team, whose record of 11-1 on the regular season earned them first place in the Blue Division. In the conference tournament, the Frosh-Soph team took second place, knocking off Stagg and Sandburg, but lost by one question to Homewood-Flossmoor. The Fresh-Soph team was led by students Abby McCreary and Matthew Ferracuti.

Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes win JJC Invitational

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the Lincoln-Way Central Mathletes Team won the Joliet Junior College (JJC) Invitational Math Contest, with 503 total points against Plainfield Central’s 394 points. With 15 areas of competition, the Knights took first place in seven areas and second place in five areas.

Lincoln-Way West student wins Frankfort Fall Festival Poster Contest

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, sophomore Courtney Kurtz was named as the winning artist for the 2018 Frankfort Fall Fest Poster Contest. Nearly 100 students submitted artwork entries to the contest. Along with Principal Dr. Monica Schmitt, Frankfort Chamber of Commerce Fall Fest Chair Bob Peters and Executive Director Alicia Bermes arrived at Lincoln-Way West to surprise Kurtz among her peers during her first hour art class. Peters noted that he had “a very difficult time choosing a winner” due to the vast amount of artistic talent among the students.

Lincoln-Way Half Marathon offers virtual running option

The second annual Lincoln-Way Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 7:00 a.m. The race will be hosted by the Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Foundation for Educational Excellence, and will offer a “virtual runner” option for those who would simply like to donate. Virtual runners will receive a sticker showing their support of the Lincoln-Way Foundation Half Marathon, and are invited to cheer for other runners along the route, as well as attend the post-race celebration.

Lincoln-Way students earn perfect ACT scores

Although Lincoln-Way West junior Kyle Auchstetter was expecting to do well on his first ACT exam, he says he was surprised when he saw just how well he had performed on his first attempt; he received a score of 35, just one point away from a perfect 36. Auchstetter had taken a practice class in the fall before taking his first ACT exam in December of 2017.
