Lincoln-Way West student reads 1,000 books throughout high school

Although she has always loved to read, Lincoln-Way West senior Raya Dunham didn’t begin high school with a specific reading goal in mind. Instead, the goal surfaced about a month ago, when Librarian Jennifer Bromann-Bender notified Dunham that she was on the brink of a large milestone. With a few weeks left before graduation, Dunham was only 30 books shy of checking out 1,000 pieces of literature from the Lincoln-Way West library.

Lincoln-Way West holds special graduation ceremony for athletes

On Thursday, June 1, 2017, five senior Warriors attended a special graduation ceremony to receive their diplomas. The May 30 Lincoln-Way West graduation ceremony had conflicted with the soccer playoff schedule of seniors Breanna Bembenek, Olivia Judge, Madison Mikalauski, Erin Toomey, and Sydney Valiska. While their classmates were graduating at the regularly-scheduled ceremony, the five Warriors were proudly representing Lincoln-Way West at the super-sectional in Normal, Illinois. Although the Warriors weren’t able to secure the super-sectional victory, the seniors contributed to the team’s furthest postseason run in program history.

Lincoln-Way East Boys Volleyball takes second in state

On Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hoffman Estates High School, the Lincoln-Way East Boys Volleyball Team took second in the IHSA State Competition. The Griffins had secured the IHSA quarterfinal match victory the night before when they played against New Trier High School.

Lincoln-Way East Girls Softball takes second in state

On Saturday, June 10, 2017 at EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois, the Lincoln-Way East Girls Softball Team took second in the IHSA State Competition. The Griffins had advanced to the 4A title game on June 9 when they secured the semifinal victory over Marist High School.

Lincoln-Way Central student attends leadership seminar

On Friday, June 2, 2017 Lincoln-Way Central student Ethan Fazio attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, along with several other sophomores in his class. The seminar ran from Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4. Students attended to learn about implementing their own leadership personalities into Lincoln-Way Central, their community, and their activities.

Lincoln-Way Marching Band begins second season as district marching band

Although the 275 members of the Lincoln-Way Marching Band (LWMB) have been busy practicing throughout the summer, the first official performance of the 2017-2018 school year won’t take place until July 4th, 2017 at the Mokena 4th of July Parade. The LWMB looks forward to showcasing their hard work and talent in their second year as a combined “community band.”

Lincoln-Way alumni team up for a cause

From June 23 " June 25, 2017 at the Arctic Ice Arena in Orland Park, nearly 40 high school teams and over 500 players will participate in the Illinois Alumni Hockey Tournament fundraiser. This year’s proceeds will benefit a local organization: the Westside Foundation.
