REINFORCEMENT

AT HOME:

AT SCHOOL:

IN THE COMMUNITY:

IN YOUR CONGREGATION:

Set fair limits on how often kids can go out with their friends during the school week.

Be firm about the four nights at home, but not inflexible. Make a distinction between having "something specific" to do and "nothing special" to do.

Make time at home fun for everyone. Play games, watch videos, take walks, etc. Limit time alone.

Monitor where your children go and who they're with.

Limit teenagers who work to 15 hours per week.

Invite friends over to study.

Make your home warm and inviting.

Limit the number of nights per week that students can be involved in activities. Train adult leaders to help kids set priorities.

Encourage coaches, club sponsors, and others not to over schedule students.

Spread special school events over the whole school year instead of grouping them around holidays or other occasions.

Limit the number of nights youth are expected to participate in activities.

Create community calendars that include all different kinds of youth activities. Distribute them widely so families can plan and set priorities together.

Sponsor workshops for parents on communicating with kids.

Help young people in unfavorable home situations find organizations and other positive environments where young people are supported, encouraged, welcome and safe.

Encourage families to schedule regular "family nights." Include ideas in worship bulletins and mailings to member households.

Limit the number of evenings youth are expected to participate in activities related to your youth program.

Limit the number of evenings adults are expected to participate in activities, meetings, and committees so they can spend more time at home with their families.
