  • Choose a congregation wisely. Emphasize family values.
  • As much as possible, allow your kids to share in the choice about where to attend religious services.
  • Live by your values and beliefs.
  • Encourage active involvement in religious activities by modeling active involvement.
  • Incorporate faith and spirituality into your daily life.
  • When making important family decisions, consider them within the context of your faith.
  • Volunteer to lead or assist with a religion class for young people.
  • Don't schedule school activities that conflict with important religious holidays, and consider the many different faiths.
  • Communicate with local religious organizations. Share holiday and activity schedules. Try to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • If possible, incorporate information about religious holidays and traditions into class discussions. Be sure to check with your school policy first, since this is not permitted in some schools.
  • Include religious youth workers on community-wide youth councils and task forces.
  • Partner with local congregations in sponsoring community-wide youth events.
  • Sponsor a series of presentations on the different faiths in your community.
  • Post congregational activities involving youth on local cable channels and electronic bulletin boards.
  • Work to build religious understanding and tolerance by learning about many different faith traditions.
  • Develop strategies for your youth programs that address the concerns, needs, interests, and issues of young people in your congregation.
  • Emphasize programming that keeps youth involved in the congregation throughout high school.
  • Include youth representation on your board.
  • Start a suggestion box for young people.
  • Don't lose touch with youth over the summer. Maintain year-round connections.
