  • As a family, discuss your views about equality and social justice. Choose one cause to follow and help.
  • Stay on top of news from around the world. Talk about what you can do to help.
  • Instead of spending money on holiday gifts, make a family contribution to a charitable organization.
  • Take family vacations in which you expose your kids firsthand to families in need.
  • Visit museums that address issues of equality and social justice.
  • Include equality and social justice as ongoing topics in class discussions and curricula.
  • Invite representatives from international service, relief, and human rights organizations to speak to students.
  • Offer a unit of study on people who have made a difference in the world through activism and service.
  • Sponsor schoolwide emphasis on particular issues and concerns, then address them in all areas of curriculum.
  • Find out if there is a teen court in your community, and if not, contact your principal, mayor, or state representative and ask that one be started.
  • Work with organizations on food and clothing drives or other projects that promote equality and social justice.
  • Give young people responsibility and leadership for service projects.
  • Post fact sheets about hunger, poverty, inequality, and injustice on bulletin boards.
  • Take time to talk with young people after they have completed service projects.
  • Take part in a mission trip or other helping trip.
  • Address issues of equality and social justice in your youth programming.
  • Address these issues in sermons, homilies, and messages to the congregation.
  • Honor and affirm members who volunteer or work for service and relief organizations.
  • Invite young people to contribue their ideas when planning ways for your congregation to address global concerns.
